All photos by Phillip Roberts. Above: Wildlife Preserve, below, Kauai pictures, the garden island. In Hawaii and all of the state's islands, there are so many things to do for people of all ages and interests. I recently took an amazing journey; a remarkable trip to the neighbor island via the newly merged Go / Mokulele airlines. Selected Photos of Kauai, the Garden IslandKauai is the only island in Hawaii with navigatable rivers. We stayed on the North Shore, mostly in the Hanalei / Princeville area. Wild chickens were everywhere as well as historic bridges. The people were wonderful. The food was excellent. I took so many pictures that I’m still going through them. Here are a few choice shots to whet your appetite for travel to the "garden isle." It was quite relaxing time and I yearn to return soon. I have been to Kauai many times and found it mostly unchanged. Pristine beaches are situated amidst fantastic vistas. Incredible snorkeling and places to check out while browning under the Hawaiian sun. We went for a hike at Limahuli Garden at Ha‘ena viewing rare tropical plants and incredible nature. Next time I go “holo-holo,” I intend to cruise the Napali Coast and explore deeper. Sleepy Hanalei town is the best! No trip to the area is complete without a trip to the Tahiti Nui bar and restaurant. This is what a Tiki bar is supposed to be like! The lauhala walls are adorned with the relics of various cultures collected over the 35 years of its existence. The mai-tai tastes great when sipped on a hand carved barstool and the “Tiki Man Pizza” is served daily from 11AM. I suggest the very ono (tasty) kaula pork and pineapple pizza. There is music and dancing nightly on the small stage in the corner. The atmosphere is very relaxed here. Tahiti Nui Bar: Kauai IslandThere is more to Hanalei including art. I suggest the sushi bar at the “Blue Dolphin” outside of Hanalei. “Bubba Burgers” are very tasty made with local Princeville ranch beef. Also, if you are interested in Oceanic and tribal art, you must visit Havaiki The store houses a good collection of reasonably priced antiques. The staff is very well schooled and you are sure to find something to enjoy for a lifetime. Hawaii events, bands and shows I recommend (December 2009):December 13 — Honolulu Marathon Advance registration required. $. December 24 — Sheraton Hawaii Bowl. Teams to be determined however it seems likely that SMU and head coach June Jones will face a WAC opponent. Henry Kapono performs at halftime. $. I wish you Mele Kalikimaka and Hauoli Makahiki Ho. Until next year, Aloha! Get more Astute ...
